KIRKPATRICK DESCENDANT CHART

There seems to be quite a controversay as just who John H KIRKPATRICK's parents were. One group believes that He was the son of William Kirkpatrick and Margaret Waugh Of Pennsylvania.
I personally doubt this based on information sent to me by Paul ARNOT.ORIGINAL CORRESPONCENCE
Several researcers claim the father and mother of our John Kirkpatrick were William and Margaret (Waugh) Kirkpatrick of Paxton Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. However, additional research seems to show that this
relationship was not true. From an article on Ann Kirkpatric;(1756-1842) daughter of
William and Margaret, the following statement is excerpted: "His (William Kirkpatrick) grave was surrounded by a wall---and it is
probable that his son John rests within the same enclosure as no mention of him is made in the settlement of the estate, and tradition
has it that one of the children was buried there." This William Kirkpatrick had left his lands to be divided equally between his sons
John and William and in case either of them die before he came to mature age, the survivor of them shall possess the whole of the lands. The son John, of this William Kirkpatrick did not appear to reach maturity, therefore, could not be our ancestor John Hugh Kirkpatrick.
Another group feels he was the son of ALEXANDER KIRKPATRICK OF Watties Neach, Dumfries Scotland. I would love to be able to prove ANDREW as John's father
since this line can claim ROYAL DESCENT.(click on Royal Descent to see the Royal Lineage)
FINALLY, AFTER MANY YEARS OF RESEARCH I think I can positivly say that HUGH KIRKPATRICK who resided in WEST NOTTINGHAM TOWNSHIP, CHESTER COUNTY, PA was the father of John H. Kirkpatrick. I have based this statement on 3 doccuments sent to me by Mrs H Kirkpatrick of Hendersonvill , NC. They are:
1) the WILL of HUGH KIRKPATRICK where he named 2 sons and has 6 other heirs for whom he gave no relationship.
2) a Deed TO John Kirkpatrick from HUGH's Estate.
3) A Deed FROM John Kirkpatrick & wife Jean/Jane for land once owned by Hugh
Use the links above to read a transcript of Hugh's Will AND abstracts of the two deeds.
CORRECTING SOME MISCONCEPTIONS
HUGH KIRKPATRICK'S PARENTS
Hugh Kirkpatrick's parents are unknown at this time. We do know who were NOT his parents.
1. WILLIAM KIRKPATRICK AND MARGARET WAUGH were NOT his parents:
William Kirkpatrick of Lancaster Co (Paxtang Township, Dauphin Co., PA) was born ca 1719, son of Samuel in Armagh, Ireland. He died in 1760. His wife was Margaret Waugh. William and Margaret had 4 children, John, Anne, Sarah and William. John died before his father as is evident that he was to inherit one of two tracts of land when his younger brother turned 21. This occurred in 1780 when Margaret deeded both tracts to William (as perscribe in William's will, if both sons did not survive until the younger attained the age of majority, the total 0f the land went to the surviving son). All of this is outlined in Wm Henrey Egles, HISTORICAL, BIOGRAPHICAL AND GENEALOGICAL NOTES AND QUERIES Annual Volume 1899, pg 60 where he discusses Wm's daughter, Anne Kirkpatrick Espy.
Hugh Kirkpatrick was a resident of Christiana Hundred, New Castle Co. DE in 1722/3 when he and A William Kirkpatrick (NOT the on who married Margaret Waugh in Lancaster Co.,) received a LAND GRANT. Since the William who married Margaret Waugh was born in 1719 he would not have been named on a land grant.
2. JOHN KIRKPATRICK and HANNAH VANCE were NOT his parents:
John Kirkpatrick (also known as John KiLpatrick) was actually Hugh Kirkpatrick's (also know as Hugh Kilpatrick) older brother. Hugh died in 1768 and John died in 1772. Per his will John had a living son named Hugh at that time.
Hugh and John were actually brothers as is discussed in AN HISTORICAL SKETCH OF THE LOWER WEST NOTTINGHAM PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH by Rev. Samuel A Gayley, 1865.
John's Obituary shows he was the same John of the Lower Nottingham Presbyterian Church.
3. ALEXANDER KIRKPATRICK was not HUGH'S FATHER:
The only Alexander who lived and died in the area was Alexander Kirkpatrick of Lancaster Co.,. His WILL does NOT name a Hugh among his children.

HUGH KIRKPATRICK'S WIFE
4. We DO NOT know who Hugh Kirkpatrick's wife was. We do know that she was not Margaret Waugh. Margaret was married to William Kirkpatrick of Lancaster/Dauphin Co, PA. She did not die until 1780, yet Hugh died in 1768 and named only children leading us to the fact that his wife was already dead.

JOHN HUGH KIRKPATRICK'S PARENTS
We DO know that JOHN HUGH KIRKPATRICK'S parents WERE NOT WILLIAM KIRKPATRICK and MARGARET WAUGH, his father was HUGH KIRKPATRICK & his mother's name is unknown.
5. JOHN HUGH KIRKPATRICK was HUGH KIRKPATRICK'S SON. He was named in Hugh's will as John. Hugh gave John land via a deed. After Hugh's death John and wife Jane/Jean sold this land and left Pennsylvania.
